Erika's Birthday Batch! 2015 Edition -part one-

Hello again! We're back again this week, and we'll be starting off with another batch of pictures. This time though, rather than a singular theme like the Keeper of Pots sketch commissions, these pictures were all gifted to me for my birthday by the fantastic people of the community! This was my first birthday I really celebrated as a part of the Hub, and to be honest there were a few submissions. I was thinking of compiling them all into one big blog post, but in the end I figured I'd just do it the classic way of one picture at a time to highlight all of them!

Besides maybe one picture in this batch though, all of them were surprises and so I had nothing to do with the planning or creation process of these pictures. So unfortunately, I won't be able to give any insight about those parts of these pictures. But I can at least talk about them! And with that, the first picture we have is by the ever talented Etlabsotwe! In here we have a classic scene of myself being hypnotized to mindlessly follow a pendulum. Funnily enough, I'm usually not the biggest fan of the zombie walk pose, but that's usually when it's super blown out of proportion. Such as with fully extended arms and what not, as it feels really exaggerated. I feel like being hypnotized suits a more weak or lethargic body language, so having this slacked arms version works for me!

On top of that, we have a very interesting expression as well. Instead of going with a sleepy look or a blank look that Etlabsotwe usually does, this one is a bit unique. If I were to try and describe it... maybe something like a mindless fascination? Like it seems as if I'm perfectly aware unlike a lot of really blank hypnosis pictures, but the rest of the world doesn't matter. All that's on my brain is following the pendulum. That can also be implied by the slight reflection of the pendulum in my eyes which is a nice touch! Another thing I'd like to comment on is the fact that the hoodie is slightly slipping off my shoulders. The whole "slight clothing slip" is something I actually REALLY like a lot. Not something I get to pull off too often with my usual outfits though!

Overall, I'd say Etlabsotwe did a fantastic job on this piece, the adventurous expression definitely paid off! And of course, I'm ever thankful that Etabsotwe even opted to draw something for me on my birthday! Though we will be seeing them again very soon, because they actually gave me TWO birthday gifts. More on that next time though!
