Greetings again all! We're back this week with another very unique post from Keeper of Pots! Those of you who have been following the blog should no doubt be aware of Keeper, but as a quick recap he was the one who helped design the graphics for the blog itself, as well as just generally being a fantastic artist in general. This picture in particular however, is more on the sketch side, as he did it fairly quickly and on a whim. That doesn't take away from how much personality shows up in the piece however.
To be quite honest with you though, I actually don't have much to say on HOW this picture came to be. You see, I remember at the time that I was upset about something. I couldn't tell you what because I'm usually upset about something new everyday haha... Though that being said, Keeper randomly felt inspired to create this piece after hearing about how frustrated I was about whatever it was at the time. Due to that, I actually managed to get an extensive quote from him about this piece that will hopefully answer some questions about it!
"As appreciators of fine culture will undoubtedly notice, this comic is pretty much a word-for-word recreation of a scene from The Ren & Stimpy Show, more specifically the episode "Stimpy's Invention". I typically don't get to indulge too much in pure cartoony drawing when it comes to hypno drawings, so it was nice being able to show what I'm made of... Even if all of the expressions and poses are essentially replicated from the scene in question.
I think the idea was born from the fact that Erika was unhappy about something at the time, so I thought it'd be funny if she was forced to wear Stimpy's happy helmet. Had I done this comic today, I would've probably included an EdgeTech logo on it, in reference to Edgeofthemoon, another hypno artist and good friend of mine,
The last line about the Republicans was lifted from a completely unrelated episode ("Ren's Brain") and it lead to some people thinking I was actually making a political statement, which was pretty funny. Especially since I considered it a complete non-sequitur, but I s'pose I shouldn't expect everyone to catch my obtuse references.
Also, I made sure to include the animation error of having the dial being operated like a button. To be honest, I never noticed that until I studied the scene more closely when making the comic."

As you can see, there were a lot of references about Ren and Stimpy! Though I do know that now, at the time however, I was not familiar with said references. I did know of the show, but to be honest I've never been a fan of it. And actually, catching some scenes of it when I was young somewhat spooked me and really off put me from the show itself. That stigma has stuck with me even to this day, where I can say I'm not the biggest fan of that series.
All that being said though, the picture itself is solid! Granted, I can't in full honesty say that it's something I'm absolutely in love with. The style of this comic is a bit too reminiscent of the show itself, plus the jokes don't really hit for me, as I'm not a fan of the source material to begin with. But even still, I'm almost always happy being included in a hypnosis based picture. On top of that, Keeper made this for me when I was feeling sad, so I can't ever really dislike it! So funnily enough, I think this post might possibly the least Erika-like picture on this blog that I actually like.
P.s I feel stupid even adding this, but I did see some silly comments on this picture when it was initially released many years ago. Since some people tend to be very serious about politics, I'll add this disclaimer: Keeper mentioned in the quote, the whole thing is a reference to various episodes of Ren and Stimpy. The lines mentioned in here do not reflect my actual political views. And to be straight up with you guys, I don't have any political views. Heck, I don't even know what a Republican party is.
