Happy Halloween everyone! Or at least it's Halloween at the time of posting this blog entry. Following the trend of the last update, we have the pairing of myself and Rachel Alucard from Blazblue once again! And also once again, the picture was commissioned by none other than Roxa. However, this time the piece was done by the ever amazing Keeper of Pots.
I mentioned just now that Roxa was the one who commissioned this piece, but in actuality I was the one who came up with the idea. Roxa and I collabed in the fact that we both wanted another piece of Rachel x Erika, but Roxa left the planning in my hands. It also just so happened at around this time I had a slot available for a Keeper of Pots commission. I remembered that the thing that initially drew me in to Keeper's artwork was his amazing background work. A lot of times in hypnosis pictures the characters are the focus and the background is less than an afterthought. Of course that isn't a bad thing per se, but since we were going for a Rachel themed picture, this gave me some inspiration to also include her garden. An iconic location in Blazblue.
And in the picture itself, we have Rachel hypnotizing me with a more traditional means of hypnosis, as opposed to her magical abilities in the previous entry. Admittedly that directly contradicts what I mentioned in my last post about "keeping things as close to canon as possible" but this is one of the two times off the top of my head that this every happens. (Coincidentally the other time this happens is also related to Keeper of Pots, but we'll cross that bridge when we get to it.) And even if it's not totally in character, we can't deny how great the end result is!
Of course the full on slave-like nudity from me in my hypnotized stupor is great, and Rachel's affectionate yet domineering expression is wonderfully rendered to show her personality here... but honestly I gotta give the props to the background. As I stated earlier, I initially wanted to go with Keeper of Pots for this piece precisely BECAUSE of his fantastic background work and he did NOT disappoint here. This picture stands out as one of my favorite Keeper of Pots pieces because of how amazingly well everything ended up looking.
Little known fact though, this picture actually game with a major glitch on release. If you're wondering why Rachel's legs feel a bit off, that's because originally her legs were crossed. Crossed legs are a great sign of dominance or confidence if you ask me, and perfect for this picture. However, a certain detail both slipped Keeper and myself. In the final version, Rachel actually ended up having backwards feet. A mistake I've seen happen fairly commonly since then... I suppose it's easy to get which foot is where if they are crossed like that. After an emergency edit, we ended up with the final version here. Luckily the anatomy problems were fixed, but the compromise was the awkward looking legs.
And finally as a bit of an extra note, normally I reserve my blog post updates to Sundays. However this one is a
bit special. Not only is Halloween my favorite holiday, but the next
post in line just HAPPENED to coincide with being another Rachel piece.
Rachel's canonical birthday is on October 31st, and heck, the stage this
picture is set in is called "Moonlight Castle -Halloween-" so it'd be a
crime to NOT post this today.
