Day of the Tentacle.

Hello again! We're back this week with a new yet somewhat familiar piece this week. What do I mean by that? Well, stop me if you heard this one before... I find myself hypnotized by disembodied purple tentacles with hypno eyes! All jokes aside though, while purple tentacle eyes seem to be a common thread, this time we have a friend along for the ride. The second girl featured in this picture is none other than Noel Vermillion from the Blazblue franchise. And on top of that, the picture is done by everyone's favorite artist: Keeper of Pots.

All that being said, this was actually a joint commission between myself and Roxa. This is the first of a few joint commissions that we'll see on this blog. By that I mean both Roxa and I split the cost of this commission and both pitched the idea together after some brainstorming. At the time, Roxa was into Blazblue as hinted before by the two previous Erika x Rachel pictures we've seen on this blog. And of course, I'm ALWAYS into Blazblue. So when Roxa opted to include Noel Vermillion, I was definitely down for it. We also chose to use her outfit she wears in Blazblue Chrono Phantasma and onwards because we liked her having her hair down.

After we had that part down, we had to think of an idea for Noel and myself to be in. I was the one who chose the tentacles (no surprise) because around this time, I had come across a different hypnosis tentacle picture where a character was in the process of being hypnotized. The Kaa eye spiral forming in their eyes specifically, but not fully entranced. That was a rare moment to see in a still picture, and I was inspired to include that idea in my next commission. It was Roxa's idea to have Noel already be fully hypnotized though. He wanted her to be fully entranced, so we decided on having me being the one in the process of being hypnotized, while Noel would be molesting me.

Those of you who are familiar with Keeper of Pot's art by now though might notice this picture looks slightly different than his usual works. And luckily I managed to snag a comment from him about this piece:

"This image marks a bit of a shift in the way I approached illustration. I typically worked with traditional means when producing the lineart, but after getting a tablet it was more efficient to do everything digitally. This image WAS inked traditionally, but I can tell by the coloring that I was having fun exploring the capabilities of using a tablet, hence why the coloring is softer and more gradient-y. I would typically employ something a lot more cel-shaded than this."

Funnily enough, all the way back when I commissioned this I remember being slightly annoyed that Keeper of Pots opted to try out this new coloring method on MY commission. Usually when I commission someone it'd be because I like their current way of doing things, so it felt weird to me that the artist would change up how they usually do things when I happen to be paying for it. But Roxa was completely fine with it, and this was a joint commission so I never bothered to go further than that. Though even now it's something that I still look back and think "I'm totally right about this." You'll never convince me otherwise Keeper!

This post has gone on for a lot longer than usual, but there is one more tidbit I'd like to add. Keeper of Pots is usually a rather patient artist, but both Roxa and I were rather indecisive when it came to this picture. It was one of the few times I remember him getting somewhat frustrated with all the changes we were applying to the picture in its infancy. One of the many changes was debating whether Noel should have panties or not, and in the end we went with "no panties and visible penetration". I bring that point up specifically because years later, I'd find out that Noel may or may not just go commando normally. Accuracy is important after all!

(By the way, Keeper of Pots came up with the title for this blog entry. Absolutely a reference to one of his favorite games.)
