Hello again! We're back this week with our proper blog post for the week, this time featuring a whole new artist but not necessarily a new idea hehe. This lovely picture was a commission of mine done by Midori-chan, a classic hypnosis artist from a few years back. As far as commissions go, this was a fairly straightforward transaction, where I contacted the artist simply because I like their work. I handed them an idea (this time I came up with what I wanted beforehand!) and the work was delivered in a timely manner with no issues.
Because of that, there's no drama or funny/interesting backstory behind this picture... So instead, let's talk about the picture itself! As stated above, this is one of the rare times that I personally already had an idea of what I wanted to commission beforehand. The idea itself isn't anything original, rather you could say it's really played out actually. Classic spiral on a computer hypnotizing unsuspecting victims! ... Wait, wasn't there a post almost just like this like the other week...? Regardless, this time it was my idea, and it was unrelated to the last one!
The idea for this, and previous commissions, plus commissions to come in the future all more less stem from the same source. I mentioned it in a blog post from a long time ago, but there was a scene in a hentai called "La Blue Girl" where a girl is hypnotized by a monitor suddenly turning into a spiral. Afterwards, tentacles shoot out from the monitor and well... you know the rest! Actually, that scene was a big inspiration for me in terms of hypnosis related content, and so I find myself gravitating towards that idea, and I even wrote a story that was a direct homage to it! Whenever there's a classic spiral on screen hypnotizing someone, I recall that scene rather than the generic hypnosis set up, and that's why we see it a few times in my commissions.
As for the picture itself, it's an interesting mixed bag for me personally. I commissioned Midori-chan because I genuinely really like their art style. That being said, I do find it to be rather inconsistent at times. And that inconsistency is something that can be seen in this picture for me. The way I'm depicted in this picture is great. Fantastic expression, unique hypno eyes, moderate sized breasts, spot on hair style, and no anatomy issues to speak of! Heck, we even got the navel piecing, which a lot of first time Erika artists miss. On the other hand, the background is literally a very pixelated copy and paste spiral, and the furniture and the laptop itself look like they were drawn as an afterthought. The spiral on the screen itself also looks rather... lazy. And to top that off, I'm not even looking at the monitor!
So this picture has a lot of ups and a lot of downs from me. Granted, I do not regret my commission at all, and I am satisfied with the product I received for the price I paid. All in all, I commissioned this because I liked the artist, and we were VERY close to the one hundred picture goal at this point, so I was pumping those commissions out! And as a slight side note, I never once gave it any thought at the time, nor many years after until just today when I was writing this blog entry... I have no idea why my shirt is yellow in this picture. I can't believe I never really gave it any kind of thought until now, but hey, I guess it's a unique outfit for me!
